Autumn Tyre Review - All Season Tyres

Why are all season tyres different?

It’s what the name suggests all season tyres are designed to perform in the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, whatever the weather. They have improved handling on cold, wet, dry or slick surfaces.

All season tyres have special pliable compounds and different tread patterns, making the tyres more durable, resulting in a much smoother ride, better grip on slippery roads and improved braking distances.

What are the benefits of all season tyres?

Customers will often say the biggest benefit is not having to purchase two sets of tyres, one for Summer and one for Winter, which is understandable as this can be very costly, plus there could be an issue of where to store the other set.

The biggest benefit of all season tyres is they perform better in wet and cold conditions, due to their thicker tread. Special blocks built into the all season tyre treads help to expel water quicker, maintaining vehicle control and reducing the risk of hydroplaning.

What causes hydroplaning?

Hydroplaning occurs when water gets trapped between the tyre and the road, causing a vehicle to slide and lose control.

Can summer and all season tyres be mixed?

It is not recommended to mix different tread patterns and types of tyres, so if you decide to change to all season tyres, you would be advised to change all 4 tyres to ensure maximum safety.

How do I know if my tyres are all season?

All Season tyres usually carry the letters ‘MS’, which means the tyres are suitable for mud and mild snow conditions. Sometimes you will find an image of a snowflake on the tyre sidewall or labelling, which means it can be driven in heavy snow.

AUTUMN TYRE REVIEW

As part of our monthly tyre reviews and with the start of Autumn, we have decided to take a look at a very popular All Season brand tyre, the ‘Bridgestone Weather Control A005’.

Bridgestone have been manufacturing tyres for nearly 90 years, with a global presence across 4 continents and over 25 countries. They are renowned for producing high performance premium tyres and are OE partner for many prestigious car brands.

The Bridgestone Weather Control A005

The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 is Bridgestone’s first ever all season touring tyre, made for all seasons, whatever the weather condition. The tyre promises a smooth, quiet and relaxing driving experience and maximum driver control in all weather. The tyre has improved road grip due to unique compound and tread pattern, and has outstanding performance in both dry and wet road conditions.

The tyre’s tread design is innovative and distributes the vehicle’s load, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and longer tyre life.

Bridgestone have always invested heavily in research and development and in particular comfort levels. The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 has reduced levels of internal and external noise, making for a much quieter driving experience.

The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 tyre scored highly in the 2020 Tyre Reviews All Season Tyre Test, finishing 4th out of 11 tyres, excelling in dry and wet tests and also scored highly for comfort levels.

A new tyre will be added to Bridgestone’s All Season range soon, called the Weather Control A005 EVO, as the name suggests it will replace the Weather Control A005. The new tyre offers excellent wet grip and enhanced performance in the snow. It has the highest ranked label for Wet Grip, it has an improved Nano Pro-Tech™ compound, innovative Z-shaped sipes and V-shaped pattern which helps with braking and acceleration, and improved traction in the snow. The tyre’s carcass is very durable and can withstand a variety of changes in weather and road surfaces. Even pressure distribution prevents uneven wear, ensuring maximum performance, increased tyre life and increased mileage.
