Let us take, for example, a number that you’d come across on a sidewall of a ContiSportContact 5 radial – 205 50 R17 93W.
“205” denotes width of the tyre in millimetres, “50” denotes height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of the width. In this case, 50% of 205mm. This is also known as the aspect ratio. “R” stands for radial construction. “17” denotes the diameter of the tyre’s inner rim in inches. “93” denotes the Load Rating of the tyre. In this case the load rating is 650 kg (max load). “W” denotes the Speed Rating. It is defined as the maximum speed of the tyre when at full load. In this case it is 168 mph (270 kmph).

Liked : Due to unusual tyre size only tyre -shopper could supply nationally. I suffered a puncture and due to run flats not repairable. The car has factory fitted Michellins that I could not source. So had to accept this tyre. I hope I can get this tyre in the future when it comes to replacing them.
Disliked : Like all runflats they are extortionate. Off the shelf they can be £280a corner.Tyre -Shopper did it for £189. Once I exceeded the 50miles recommended runflat my car was off the road for two days .buyer beware of runflats. I d rather have standard tyre and a spare😥😥😥

Liked : I like these tyres a lot, they have very good grip for RF tyres in the Dry and Wet. However the ride on these is not harsh but a little bouncy.. this was something i noticed switching from GoodYears. I would buy again, but i would be interested to try these back to back with Bridgestone RF's having tried Goodyear to Conti. The Conti have a lot more wet grip.

Liked : I have NOT had any issues aquaplaning in this car, nor using these tyres. However having had a previous car aquaplane & spin for no apparent reason on hitting a couple of mm of running water under a bridge on a dead straight motorway at 70mph, it is difficult to say about aquaplaning as it could happen to anyone in freak weather conditions when large parts of the UK are flooded which can seep onto the roads.

Liked : Had car from new, fitted with continental sport contact 2 on it, I used to fit the same, then switched a few years ago to sport contact 3's and have now switched to sport contact 5's. I trust them implicitly and will never put a different tyre onto my car. I once due to cost at the time tried some avon zz3 tyres, let's just say as soon as they had worn out I switched back to the sport contact tyres. To me they are absolutely excellent on my focus diesel.
