Almost no all wheel drive vehicle leaves the factory with tyres that are suitable for off road driving.
4x4 vehicles were original created for driving in rough off road conditions but due to the additional stability and power they offer, these cars are becoming popular for city driving too.
What are 4x4 tyres?
Most road tyres are built for speed, noise limitation and greater mileage. However, 4x4 tyres also offer stability, grip and stiffness.
Off road tyres need to have a rugged tread pattern with reinforced sidewalls. They also need to have a higher rubber ration as well as greater tread depth in order to give you the best responsiveness and accuracy in steering.
If you have an All Terrain Vehicle or a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), that spontaneous desire to veer off the beaten track can prove costly if you don't have a decent set of tyres to run on.
Are there different types of 4x4 tyres?
Many 4x4 vehicle owners consider fitting tyres of different sizes on to their motors to either increase their performance or to make them look bigger.
We stock a number of these tyres online, however, you must remember that if you do change the tyre sizes on a 4x4 vehicle, you are governed by the Highway Code.
The load index and speed rating on the new tyre must be equal to or greater than the original ones. Tyre sizes must also be identical across the vehicle and should not touch any moving components of the car.
