Nov 2011: Pirelli Launches New Generation Diablo Supercorsa Tyres
The Italian tyre manufacturer, known to produce high performance motorcycle tyres has recently added one more feather to its premium motorcycle tyre range – the Diablo Supercorsa.
Officials from Pirelli tyres confirmed that the new generation Diablo Supercorsa will make its debut in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup next year. This is a tyre all motorcycle enthusiasts can look forward to, as it is suitable for the race track and also gives a sporty riding style for regular usage on roads.
The Diablo Supercorsa will be available in two variants – the SC variant suited for the racing circuit and the SP variant or ‘street version’ for regular on-road usage.
The Diablo Supercorsa SC will debut at the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. Incidentally, SC stands for ‘Special Compound’ that will be incorporated in the product to make it ideal for racing tracks. SP stands for Sports Product, where the compound will undergo necessary tweaks to make the tyre suitable for everyday usage on roads.
A Phased Roll Out
Pirelli has grand plans in store for its new generation Diablo Supercorsa. However, the company is taking it easy and following a phased roll out for the various versions of this product.
Initially limited SC version tyres will be launched, specifically for the 2012 Superstock 1000 Cup. These will be available in front size of 120/70ZR17 and rear size of 200/55ZR17. Following this launch, Pirelli intends to expand this range by including more sizes. The entire range will become available by end of 2012. This staggered launch will allow Pirelli to use the different racing sizes in different national championships held throughout 2012.
Company sources revealed that the SP version of the Diablo Supercorsa will be available in the initial quarter of 2013. This street use version will be available in three common rear wheel sizes – 180/55,190/55 and 195/50.
Improvement over Previous Versions
As compared to the earlier generation, the new Diablo Supercorsa has a greater side edge on the rear wheel. Also the diameter in the middle has been increased resulting in improved braking response and greater precision in maintaining the line.
New structures and compounds have been incorporated to optimize performance on the race track, in the SC version. The technology used in rear SC version tyres ensures better grip and speedy warm up – essential criteria for good race circuit performance.
Technologies in the SP Diablo Supercorsa
Pirelli is quite excited by the unique experience their SP Diablo Supercorsa will bring to motorcycle riders. According to company officials, riders using the SP tyres can experience an ultra high performance comparable to that achieved on the race tracks.
In order to make this possible, Pirelli engineers have designed the SP version borrowing the technology and expertise the company has accumulated as the exclusive tyre supplier for the Superbike World Championships for the past seven years.
The characteristic design on the SP Diablo Supercorsa includes long longitudinal grooves that move from the center to the shoulder. This design ensures wear regularity even during severe use.
Of course as, with all tyres in the Diablo range, the shoulder is ‘naked’ to offer maximum grip for on-road sporty usage in the SP Diablo Supercorsa.
