May 2012: Goodyear Tyres To Equip New DAF Trucks

DAF has chosen the Goodyear Marathon+ tyres to equip the newest release, the ATe (Advanced Transport Efficiency) trucks.

The main reason for this choice is the fact that the Goodyear Marathon+ tyres offer considerably decreased rolling resistance which means that the vehicles will offer good performance capabilities and will have reduced fuel consumption.

As both DAF and Michelin have begun to focus on creating new products that will offer increased performance with lesser fuel consumption, we find that a partnership between the two companies was inevitable.

DAF will release the new XF105 ATe and the CF85 Ate tractors that are part of the new Advanced Transport Efficiency program, tractors that will be equipped with the Goodyear Marathon LHS II+ steer tyres and the Goodyear Marathon LHD+ drive tyres in the size 315/70R22.5.

The Advanced Transport Efficiency program focuses on combining the best possible components to substantially decrease fuel consumption and CO2 emissions while improving the overall performance of the vehicle. For example, besides the Goodyear Marathon+ tyres, the design of the coachwork has been improved from the aerodynamic point of view in order to achieve better traction and performance.

The Marathon+ tyres from Goodyear are the latest release from the company on the long haul tyre niche. The tyres have been proven to offer better performance in terms of decreased fuel consumption and wet surfaces without decreasing overall mileage performance.

The main reason for the improved performance offered by the new Marathon+ tyres (which is 7% better than the company’s previous models) is the new Silefex compound which has been proven to improve tread. The compound has been designed by Goodyear Innovation Centre Luxembourg and is the result of an innovating combination between silica fillers and natural rubber.
