May 2012: A Change In Tyre Supplier For the MSA British Historic Rally Champions

2013 MSA British Historic Rally Championship will be the first competition which will offer participants tyre choice possibilities.

During the previous years, Dunlop was the sole supplier of tyres for the event and covered both events: the asphalt and the gravel competitions.

2013 will be the first year in which, besides the traditional supplier, Dunlop who was the event’s supplier for the last four years, three new additional suppliers will participate: Pirelli, Kumho and Dmack.

This shows that the MSA British Historic Rally Championship moves forward to a new and more competitive age in terms of tyre suppliers.

The MSA British Rally Championship

The MSA British Rally Championship is an annual event that takes place in Britain. The competition is composed of six events which take place in different regions of the British Islands. The championship was first held in 1958 and in 1999 received its license from the MSA Motor Sports Association.

The championship is renowned by the fact that the cars that participate in it are old rally automobile vehicles produced between 1950 and 1980.

The 2012 season will bring a slight change in the program as the cars which will participate will be homologated two wheel rally cars, support series two wheel drives for non-homologated vehicles and four wheel production based cars.

The 2013 MSA British Historic Rally Championship might follow the same structure, but currently we are unaware of an actual declaration. What has been revealed is that the competition will cover two main events: asphalt and gravel.

What Should We Expect In The Future?

Pirelli representatives have declared that the company will focus on providing high quality competitive products which will reflect the extensive experience that the company has accumulated during its participation as the sole supplier in the MSA British Historic Rally Championship between 2008 and 2010.

The fact that Pirelli will return to the championship as a tyre supplier will definitely attract some attention, especially since Pirelli has been an active tyre supplier for the event during the past decades. In 2013 Pirelli will most probably bring a couple of new historic tyres present portfolio which will surely be used at the competition.

Dmack has previously participated at the FIA World Rally Championship with Michelin in 2011. The company has some expertise in the domain and has declared that for the 2013 MSA British Historic Rally Championship it will supply asphalt and gravel tyres of 13 to 15 inches which will cover most of the automobiles featured in the competition.

Representatives from the company have declared that they welcome the organizers’ decision regarding multiple tyre options in the completion as this will ensure higher competition between participants as well as tyre manufacturers. The company desires to bring forth competition tyres that are affordable and that at the same time offer good value for money.

Kumho has not yet made a declaration regarding its strategy on the MSA British Historic Rally Championship. However, considering the fact that the company is well renowned in the tyre production field we expect to see promising future results.
