June 2012: Cooper’s New WeatherMaster WSC

There are some old universal folk proverbs which say something along the line “In winter one should build a carriage and in the summer a sleigh”.

This is the marketing strategy that many tyre manufacturers seem to adopt, as barely summer came and the new models of winter tyres have begun to appear.

Among the latest companies to release its new winter tyre line is the Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. The new winter tyre line comes under the name of Weather Master WSC, the latter standing for “Winter and Snow Confidence”.

The new Weather Master WSC distinguishes itself from the previous models through its tread design that has adopted a directional approach, through the compound that tackles a combination of high silica polymer with low modulus, combination that improves the adhesion of the tyre surface on icy and watery driving surfaces.

The design of the tread of the WSC uses the well appreciated Cooper Snow Groove technology that was very well received by both consumers and critics in the domain. The technology increases the acceleration possibilities of the tyre as well as the overall vehicle handling in winter driving conditions such as snow with the use of micro-gauge sipes which provide the adherence needed to increase traction and give the driver better control of the vehicle.

In addition to the tread design, the WSC adopts the studdable option. It comes with 132 stud count that come in 12 rows which provide the tyre with additional grip feature.

The Cooper Tire and Rubber Company have branded the WSC tyres with the snow flake and mountain symbol which means that it offers consumers great response in dire winter conditions.

The new tyre line has been designed to serve especially SUVs and a small range of passenger cars such as: Lexus RX350/450, Nissan Murano, BMW x3 and Mazda 3 and 5. It will be available in a set of 10 sizes between 17’’ and 18’’ in rims:
