Jan 2012: Continental Bags Top Spot in the Evo Performance Tyres Test

The New Year is bringing excellent tidings for Continental tyres as the company’s various products bag top honours in various tyres tests conducted across different product categories and by different independent testing bodies.

After winning the best buy label from Which? consumer magazine for its winter tyres and claiming the top spot at the Auto Car conducted test on winter tyres, Continental has now moved on to bagging the highest honours in the category of performance tyres in a test conducted by popular monthly Auto Title Evo.

And the Award Goes to..

This time, the brand that has made Continental proud is the ContiSportContact3 tyres.

This tyre was developed specifically by the company as a performance oriented tyre designed to ably support performance vehicles like sports coupes, luxury sedans etc.

This tyre was tested alongside competitors in the same category and of the same size 225/40 R18 by Evo on a range of specific performance parameters. And according to Evo, the ContiSportContact3 outperformed competitors in every single area and was the undisputed winner.

The Test Details

Evo tested all the tyres by fitting them on a range of high end vehicles (which are their intended partners for use) at the MIRA proving ground.

All tyres were evaluated on their performance in the following areas – wet and dry handling, aquaplaning or the ability of the tyre to deflect water from itself and of course the all important braking response.

Evo commented that the ContiSportContact3 gave a ‘masterfully complete performance’. Strong praise indeed, but nothing compared to what else was said.

Evo Praises ContiSportContact3

Evo was extremely impressed with the performance of the tyre and heaped lavish praises on it. The magazine particularly pointed out its performance on the wet circuit, where even though the other produced some amazing results, the ContiSportContact3 managed to outdo even the best performers by a significant margin. The tyre apparently recorded the fastest lap time and the highest lateral G on the wet circuit.

The title acknowledged the tyre’s superb stability and traction, making it the most reliable and safe tyre for high performance vehicles. “The ContiSportContact3 will keep you sure-footed as you explore the limits of your performance vehicle” was what Evo said of the tyre.

Continental Responds

The company is naturally extremely pleased with all the praises that have been heaped on the ContiSportContact3. According to Jonathan Hayter, Product Manager at Continental, the recognition reemphasizes Continental’s commitment towards its customers in producing the best quality tyres that offer maximum performance, while keeping in mind the safety considerations.

Mr. Hayter further commented that this was a particular boost to the company’s ultra –high performance oriented tyres range as it showed clearly that Continental’s products are miles ahead of competitors’ products in all aspects be it wet and dry handling, aquaplaning or even braking response.
