Dec 2011: New Gravel Truck Tyre G:01 Launched by Pirelli
Pirelli tyres has recently announced an addition to its 01 range of gravel truck tyres. Named G:01, officials revealed that the new tyre is suitable for use on roads as well as in construction sites.
The company has launched the G:01 tyres in two versions – the FG:01 that will cater to steer axles and the TG:01 suited for drive axles.
At the moment, both versions will be available in two sizes – 315/80R22.5 and 295/80R 22.5
The Technology Behind the G:01 Range
Both the FG:01 and the TG:01 tyres incorporate a double layer tread compound, using two different compounds in the external and internal layers.
The outer layer offers greater abrasion resistance and improved mileage.
It is also responsible for ensuring that the tyre undergoes even wear on usage to enhance the tyre life. Finally, the external tread compound offers improved grip in wet and dry driving conditions, reducing braking distances and improving safety.
The inner tread compound contributes to reduction in rolling resistance and provides structural integrity to the tyre. As a result, the G:01 tyres can achieve greater fuel efficiency.
Both the external and internal compounds have been formulated with the objective of reducing the heat generated during tyre operation. As a result, the tyres would be more robust or healthy for a longer time.
The silica component in the inner tread compound is maintained at a higher level than the external layer to achieve the desired results.

According to company sources, the Dual Layer Tread Compound (DLTC), which is the USP of the G:01 range offers a number of benefits. Both the TG:01 and the FG:01 tyres exhibit 30% higher mileage and the optimal tear resistance is increased by 25%.
The retread rates are also higher by 10%. All these factors translate into greater performance efficiency and improved safety. And combined with affordable pricing, the G:01 range represents a unique combination of cost efficiency, safety and performance in this category of tyres.

Truck Marketing Manager, Pirelli UK, Mr. Neil Booker commented that engineers at the Pirelli innovation centre, taking advantage of the state of the art construction techniques available here have designed the G:01 range in such a manner as to provide higher acoustic comfort and reduced rolling resistance.
In fact these levels will comply with the EU standards on noise emission on rolling resistance in tyres that will come into effect shortly.
Mr. Booker further added that the G:01 range offers improved grip and enhanced performance under moderately aggressive conditions that are most commonly faced by vehicles in this category.
Mr. Booker concluded that all factors have been achieved without the G:01 tyres compromising on cost efficiency and environment friendliness, which is a huge plus for the range.
Two Pirelli Patents for the TG:01 tyres
The TG:01 tyre is covered by two Pirelli patents for its tread pattern. The base of the grooves feature protective ribs for added protection in the area and also prevents stone retention that can impede balance and safety. And a second patent covers the “stepped block wall” geometry of the tread pattern that offers increased traction by facilitating slush and mud expulsion.
