Dec 2011: Metzeler Introduces New Sizes in the Feelfree Wintec Tyre Range
Tyre manufacturer Metzeler has brought good news to scooter riders ahead of the New Year. The company has announced new fitments for its popular Feelfree Wintec winter tyre range. This means that these high quality all season tyres can be fitted on more number of scooters offering greater mobility and ensuring safety of people who use their scooters for various purposes all through the year.
The Details of the New Tyres
The Metzler Feelfree Wintec tyres are now available in three additional sizes –
While announcing this range expansion, company officials commented that enhancing road safety is the main driver behind the company’s R&D policy.
Feelfree Wintec Range
Metzeler introduced the FeelfreeWintec tyre range for the first time in 2007 aimed at the niche scooter market. These tyres were designed to offer the most performance in colder weather and improve grip on rainy roads.
And the fact that the tyres guarantee the same performance in scorching climate and on arid lands, makes them the ideal all-season scooter tyres.
However, at that time, only one size was launched, suitable for maxi scooters upto the capacity of 650 cc like the Suzuki Burgman 650 and the Yamaha Tmax 500.
As the tyres improved handling and stability, increasing driver confidence and security, the Feelfree Wintec range dominated the segment and because they are uniformly effective, irrespective of the weather or season, the use of scooters fitted with these tyres has become non seasonal.
The only disadvantage, (if you could call it that) was that the range was limited. With the current launch, Metzeler has effectively addressed this problem.
The Technology
The most important feature of the Metzeler Feelfree Wintec tyres is its unique tread design that contributes to the tyre’s superior performance on all aspects and in all temperature conditions.
The tread incorporates sipes (narrow channels cut into it) that do not let the water collect in the tread in wet conditions. As water drainage is optimised because of the breaking up of the water plane, the centre tread traction on wet surfaces is improved. Further, the shoulder tread makes better contact with the surface, improving the grip and enhancing stability.
The ability to perform well under varying temperature conditions can also be attributed to the tyre’s unique compound that is a patented mix of 3 diverse polymers, which glaze over at varying weather conditions allowing excellent and uniform grasp on damp as well as dry roads.
Finally, the company uses a “cap and base” technology. As a result of this technology, the road stress is transferred from the tread to the carcass perking up firmness and enhancing performance.
