20/10/2010: Even cheap tyres need looking after properly

In today’s economic circumstances it’s hardly surprising that many motorists are looking for cheap tyres but it’s fair to say that all motorists can get a good deal more life out of their tyres if only they paid more attention to maintenance. As we’ve already said; even cheap tyres need looking after properly so fitting them and ignoring them is simply pouring your money down the drain. So after you’ve invested your hard-earned cash in your cheap tyres, what should you do to look after them?

Well as in most things today, a new answer to the cheap tyres maintenance conundrum might easily be found by looking on line. And a new video production from French tyres giant Michelin may have some of the answers. And although it’s not really about cheap tyres, the broad points that it covers can easily apply to any tyres. So whether you’re driving on cheap tyres, mid-priced or even premium priced tyres it’s worth giving a few minutes of your time to take a look.

The new video from Michelin has been placed on YouTube so that all motorists, including those who are driving on cheap tyres will be able to easily access the video and see it for themselves without going to a great deal of trouble. The new video, which as I repeat is not just about cheap tyres, is a very clever production that uses puppets in an amusing but telling way to highlight the general public’s attitudes towards tyre maintenance and in particular to checking tyre pressures.

Michelin Tyres has collected a wealth of information, not just about cheap tyres of course, that has shown them what they see as drivers’ lax attitudes to tyre pressure maintenance. In the video, which I believe should be required watching for all motorists not just those who use cheap tyres, a series of characters talk about their bad attitudes to tyres. These include a boy-racer, a sales rep and a middle-class woman. The video was meant to be funny and it is, but the idea is to educate all motorists into the importance of looking after their tyres even if they are cheap tyres.
